MARTINSVILLE — With the sounds of children echoing up from the back hallway, the main living area of the house on West Sumner Avenue was packed with more than 50 people last Saturday — all on hand to celebrate with the Coffman family and to honor the efforts of so many volunteers that went into the home build.
The completion of the Coffmans’ house represents the 58th home build by Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County, which requires the new owners to work alongside the volunteers and “Habitat Heroes” who oversee the construction project.
Habitat board member Dwayne Metcalf hosted the dedication ceremony, celebrating the achievement and the new chapter for the Coffman family.
“We’re not going to call this a house anymore,” he said. “It’s a home.”
