MARTINSVILLE — There were several leadership shakeups for the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville school board at its special meeting Jan. 7.
The beginning of the meeting was marked by the swearing-in of incumbent candidates Matt Hankins, Heather Staggs and Jacque Deckard, each of whom won reelection back in November. Following this, as is the case with every government body during the first month of the year, was the election of new officers.
After Hankins, who served as the board’s president all of last year, opened the meeting, Deckard immediately nominated Staggs to serve as president for 2025; she was approved unanimously.
Staggs conducted the rest of the meeting from the vice president’s chair, calling for nominations for someone to replace her as vice president. Board member Dan Conway nominated the board’s secretary Luke Jackson for the role, and he was approved unanimously.
Now that Jackson had a new position, another board member needed to step in his place...
