MONROVIA — The Monrovia Town Council has a vacancy after Dustin Kaufman resigned Jan. 10.
The former councilman’s contact information has already been removed from the town’s website, and Morgan County Republican Party Chair Carole Snyder has been notified.
Normally, when a town council member resigns, a caucus would be held to appoint a successor. However, because District 3, where Kaufman served, only has one precinct committeeman, Kaufman’s replacement will be hand picked by Snyder. The party chair gets 30 days following the resignation to name a successor, giving Snyder until Feb. 9. Kaufman’s replacement must also live in District 3.
Kaufman told The Correspondent he made the decision to resign to focus on his education and spend time with his family. He said the decision was not easy, but felt it was time for him to prioritize “personal responsibilities.”
