MOORESVILLE — The future of street fairs in downtown Mooresville is in question after a street closure request was discussed during the town council’s Feb. 4 meeting.
Local business owner Regina Shelby, who has helped manage the street fairs in recent years, came to the council and said that she originally thought there would need to be changes due to the Main in Motion project on Main Street — which was originally planned to start this year but has been delayed at least a year.
Shelby said she had discussed scheduling options with the owner of Five East so that there were no interruptions with planned events at that business.
She also told the council that she has secured a local Boy Scout group to pick up trash during the event.
Councilman Josh Brown asked Shelby about her creating a nonprofit organization to run the street fairs.
“Where are you at in that process?” Brown asked.
“I haven’t done that,” Shelby responded.
