MOORESVILLE — Her contagious smile and engaging personality are just a small part of Diane Huerkamp’s lasting legacy. And last Friday, friends, family and public officials underscored her community impact as they gathered at the Mooresville Public Library to celebrate Huerkamp’s retirement and welcome longtime staffer-turned-interim director Sandra Osborn.
Huerkamp’s sendoff last Friday was well deserved after her 27 years at the Mooresville Public Library, having first been hired in 1997.
She originally started as a part-time children’s assistant, but Huerkamp quickly moved into new positions and expanded her expertise, including adult reference librarian, adult services-outreach librarian, assistant director and interim director before being made the executive director in 2004.
Given that legacy, an official proclamation was recently made by the Mooresville Town Council declaring Dec. 27 as “Diane Huerkamp Day.”
