MONROVIA — After more than half a year without a town manager, the Monrovia Town Council has finally filled the vacancy left behind by Danny Chenault last July.
For several months, Monrovia’s plan administrator, Maryanne Taylor, had been tasked by the council with fulfilling Chenault’s old duties, but she still remained a part-time employee of the town.
No longer.
At its Feb. 25 meeting last week, the council unanimously voted to make Taylor the official town manager. Her appointment is a reversal for the council, and earns councilman Philip Fowler some vindication — as he suggested Taylor for the job months ago, but the other members of the council said Taylor was not qualified for the position.
The council has recently held multiple executive sessions to interview candidates for the job, which, for smaller towns like Monrovia, is essentially the top day-to-day administrative position. Despite these closed-door meetings, the council was unable to find anyone to its liking, ...
