Lots of talk but no action on city hall decision

MARTINSVILLE — After meeting for more than an hour Monday night, the Martinsville City Council decided to hold another workshop to discuss the future of city hall.
The council met Monday in city hall with the discussion of the future of city hall as the only agenda item.
For years, the plan was that once the new police station was constructed and the department moved out of city hall, the space it had occupied would be remodeled and the clerk-treasurer’s office would move from its current location by the waste treatment plant on the city’s south side.
(Years ago, the city’s clerk-treasurer occupied the area where the city superintendent is now. They moved from that location into the former Chrysler Building that stood at the corner of Morgan and Mulberry Streets. When that building was demolished, the office moved to its current location on Rogers Road.)
