MOORESVILLE — Breaking ground on a multi-million-dollar physical and visual makeover of eight downtown blocks of Main Street has been delayed for about a year.
Under the original timetable, work was to have begun this spring and to have been substantially finished by the end of the year. Under a new timetable, the project will need to be rebid. That is planned for August with work then to begin in 2026.
That delay comes after the Mooresville Redevelopment Commission learned on Jan. 14 that Indiana-American Water Co. plans to replace the water main serving those same blocks in the next few months.
Eight days later, on Jan. 22, what was to have been a special RDC meeting for opening sealed bids on the project instead became a discussion of a new timetable.
Because the project — called Main in Motion — includes new street and sidewalk surfaces, that work cannot proceed while the water main replacement is going on, said RDC president Ryan Taylor at the Jan. 22 meeting.
