MORGAN COUNTY — The nation’s biggest football game may have gotten all the spotlight this past weekend, but your local athletes were hard at work, too. From every corner of Morgan County, here is this week’s basketball roundup.
Lady Eels basketball
All streaks must come to an end.
Greenwood Christian Academy taught that lesson to the Lady Eels last Friday, snapping Eminence’s 17-game winning streak with a 44-41 victory. The Eels finish the season with an impressive 20-6 record, coming within just a couple shots of an 18-game streak.
Eel boys basketball
The Eels’ rough season got even rougher last week, as the team was destroyed by Indianapolis Metropolitan, 72-22. With the loss, Eminence fell to 5-15 on the season.
The boys will have a chance for redemption tonight with a game at Riverside at 6 p.m.
Artesian boys basketball
After a decisive victory against Speedway last Thursday, the Artie boys dropped a close one at Tri-West Hendricks on Saturday, 57-50. Martinsville, already having a rocky season, fell to 5-12 with the loss.
The Arties played Edgewood at home on Tuesday, after press time, and will host the Pioneers Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., hoping to take down their county rivals.
Pioneer boys basketball
The Pioneers fell below .500 after a heartbreaking loss Saturday at Westfield, 58-55. The boys basketball team dropped to 9-10 on the year.
Mooresville has two road games coming up: first, a Valentine’s Day showdown against county rival Martinsville at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Feb. 18 game at Center Grove.
Bulldog boys basketball
Greencastle put down the Bulldog boys last Thursday, 64-49, dropping Monrovia further to 6-10 on the year. They had a chance to bounce back Tuesday at home against Tri-West Hendricks, after press time.
Monrovia has two games over the weekend. The Bulldogs have a Valentines Day date in Beech Grove at 6 p.m., and play away at Indianapolis Scecina Memorial the next day at 7:30 p.m.
