MOORESVILLE — The Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark is not the only professional basketball player to star in a commercial shot at Mooresville Schools Newby Dome this year.
Now, it’s been revealed that Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton also visited the Newby Dome for a video promoting his new Hali 1 “Pace” shoe, named for the Pacers.
Sharp eyes have detected that the bleachers on which Haliburton is sitting in the video look just like the ones at Newby Dome.
“They are,” Mooresville High School head basketball coach Nate Bingham confirmed for The Correspondent last Friday.
Neither Bingham nor his players got to meet Haliburton last summer when he visited the Newby Dome, which was the original gym for Mooresville High School and the first to be built in Morgan County.
Bingham posted about Haliburton last Thursday on the Mooresville High School Boys Basketball page on Facebook: “We feel like we have seen that gym floor and those bleachers before! Anyone think the Puma Hali 1 ‘Pace’ colorway should be a team shoe?”
The Hali 1 gold shoe, with small accents of dark blue, matches Mooresville High’s colors.
The new Hali 1 shoe will go on sale Oct. 23 on Puma’s website and in select retail stores at $130.
The release date of the shoe coincides with the Pacers’ home opener this season against the Dallas Mavericks. It will be Haliburton’s first time back on the home floor in a regular-season game since the 2024-25 season when he ruptured his right Achilles tendon during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals.
“How many times [do pro stars such as Haliburton and Clark come twice] into a little old gym like Newby?” Bingham asked, incredulously.
As for his players, Bingham said if they had any contact with Haliburton in the future — an autographed photo, a signed basketball, a pair of the new shoes for a trophy case — “just like any other teenager, they would be foaming at the mouth in excitement.”
Bingham, a Mooresville High and Indiana State University graduate, is in his first year as head coach of the Pioneers after being an assistant coach for the team. He is also a special education teacher at the high school.
He has had other coaching positions at Plainfield, Ben Davis and Mt. Vernon high schools and was a manager and graduate assistant at Indiana State while earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. He has lived all of his life in Mooresville except for his years at Indiana State.
The Pioneers open their 2026-2027 season at home against Terre Haute North Vigo on Nov. 25. Mooresville is a Class 4A team and competes in the Mid-State Conference. The varsity team was 8-15 last year and lost to Southport High School in the sectionals, played at Mooresville.
Bingham hopes to be able to take his team to see a Pacers game this year as a bonding experience and to expand the players’ exposure to professional play.
And maybe a Haliburton autograph while they’re at it?
